Wolverine director named
After the original X-Men trilogy was deemed a smashing success, grossing over $1 billion worldwide, we always knew that the spin-offs would come flying at us. Of course the first would have to be about the mutant who is arguably the most popular of the series….Wolverine. Yes that crazy haired Canadian will have his own film, which will begin production this November and is currently scheduled for release sometime in 2008. Hugh Jackman will be returning as Logan, which I think is a very good thing.
We now know who will be directing the first X-Men spin-off flick, his name is Gavin Hood. His name may not be mainstream here in America, but that could all change soon. Hood is a South African director who’s biggest success to date is the film “Tsotsi” won the foreign film Oscan in 2005. His upcoming New Line drama “Rendition” is also getting some good buzz, it is set to open in October.

The Wolverine movie will focus on Logan’s beginnings, pulling source from all over the Marvel Universe including the Weapon X graphic novels by Barry Windsor Smith and some of Frank Miller’s work on the character. The producers say that this will be an action and origin story where we get to see how Wolverine became who he is today.
